 What
the problem is in Maasailand regarding water supplies. The big problem
in the village of Narok is that there is one supply of water, the river.
All the animals drink out of it, the people wash in it and also drink
it. When SoapBox started to work on a building project several years
ago, we found that the teams we sent were getting an inordinate amount
of tummy bug related problems. This reflected the same issues that the
local villagers were having.
SoapBox undertook to try and do something about the problem and commissioned
a survey by a water company based in Nairobi to ascertain whether there
was a source of clean water available that could be used instead of
the river.
As a result of the survey, it turns out that there is every indication
that water is available but that it would be fairly deep and would require
a bore hole and methods of accessing, filtering and distribution once
brought to the surface.
The problem is that whilst it is possible to do this, the money has
run out to get it done. We hoped another group would pick up on this
but unfortunately, they have met with little success. |
